Hi all, I'm returning to Kunming after a three year hiatus and am wondering if there are any other good bike shops out there other than the Xiong Brothers?
To be clear, I've got nothing against them, and have had good experiences with bikes purchased from them in the past, I just want to make sure there aren't other good shops I should check out to compare with them?
Sure, Specialized has a shop now up in Beichen (north) area. There's also a bike shop around back of the the sports complex that is at the end of Jiaoling Lu. At the intersection of Xiyuan Lu and Dianchi Lu there's another good one selling Format and UCC bikes. Kunming's getting lots of options for biking these days - if you have the cash!
Oh, and there's a Trek brand shop just past the city zoo as you head north on Qingnian Lu.

I went and checked out the Specialized shop last week. They're selling S-Works road bikes at four times the U.S. price and the "service area" has all the tools, but it's filled up with boxes. I think this is a shop for rich, middle-aged local guys who decide they want to try biking, drop 200,000 yuan on a bike, and never use it again.
I usually go to Xiong, but have heard good things about Cyclist, the one in the Kunming Stadium on Huancheng Xi Lu: www.gokunming.com/en/listings/item/cyc_32361/
There's also Giant - I'd probably pass on the brand names and just make sure they have the equipment you really want - disk or caliper brakes, shimano vs other gears and shifters as the copycat market is so prevalent - even the namebrand stores might be selling a mix of true and fake brands - take the famous case of the Shanghai LV store several years back which was busted for selling fake LV goods...higher store profit margins...
