GOOD vet in Kunming...a couple of questions...

sychar415 (8 posts) • 0

I am still a newbie to KMG and have vet questions! I own a former stray doggie who is in need of some dental cleaning! I do not know if any vet here does this and I am afraid my language suffers enough to not be able to convey clearly The local west-side vets have told me mei-you, but maybe they did not understand my broken language and charades? :) Does anyone recommend the Kunming Animal Hospital? If so, do you know if they perform dental care?

Also, I hear that when you spay an animal here, the vets only take away their ability to reproduce. They don't take out her ability to have a menstrual cycle. Is this true? In the States, they basically take out all her reproductive organs. Thank you for your help!!!! :)

when you spay a bitch you just ask them to remove the womb,,its the same as in the States,,but you have to ask for it to be done. The vet at the Ag Uni vet place at the end of 121 did this for our dog no problems.

Does anyone have the phone number to the vet that Yuantongsi mentioned? I want to get my small dog spayed, but the vet at the west side dog market tried to convince me not to. I don't want her going into heat or going crazy for 3 weeks twice a year. She's just 2 years old. Any suggestions?

Short question. Why you want to spay your dog? Beeing in heat is not a big issue for a dog. I have two female dogs and I hardly realize when they are in heat. They clean themselfs and the only thing you have to do is to walk them on a leash.

I would never put my dogs to the process of getting spayed.

Especially not in China.

There are two good vets in Kunming as far as I know. One is near Metro called A Du Pets Hospital and the phone number is 5737260.

The other one is called Chong Bao Li located on Baita Road tel 3165127

Both of two places look clean with relatively professional vets.

I recently had my female dog spayed in Chong Bao Li and she has been doing well. This place has heated surgery bed and is using gas anesthetics which is a safer choice for dogs. But the fee is higher than other vets in Kunming. The surgery bill is just over 1000rmb plus 400rmb for 4-5 days antibiotic injection which is given afterwards in case of infection. On top of that adding the taxi fees etc you look spending 1500rmb for the whole thing.

If you choose injection anesthetics the bill will probably come down by half.

Hi

As my screen name suggests I am a UK based vet no longer in Kunming.

I take issue with Hazelnut.

A large number of un neutered bitches in middle / old age develop womb infections- PYOMETRA. They are often very ill and need neutering when in no fit condition for an operation.

I'm not sure how safe routine neutering is in China but in UK where it is SAFE the advice must be if you do not intend to breed the bitch get her Neutered to save a serious illness when she is older.

@chinesegurlinuk do either of those vets have someone who speaks english?

@vet1052 do you have any rec's for an english-speaking vet in KM for my cat?

thanks!

Chong Bao Li is very specialized in cats but I don't think they have English speaking staff.

But A Du Pets Hospital near Metro has a freelance English translator who could do the translation via phone when you are there.

Address: 北辰小区樱花苑552单元102号商铺.

I think they are open 24 hours.

I am not sure about the English speaking personnel for both.

But the address given above is correct.

Good luck on your cat!
