I have tentative plans to motorbike from Kunming to Vietnam and Laos this summer and I'm trying to figure out what problems I may encounter along the way. I have a Chinese driver's license and will have a bike registered in Yunnan. The biggest problems I foresee are at the borders and being legal to drive in foreign countries with a Chinese license. If anyone has done a trip like this and has any valuable advice, I'd be really grateful. Thanks!
Doesn't answer your question, but if you search for Top Gear on on youku.com you will find an episode where the British presenters rode motorbikes from one end of Vietnam to the other. Very funny show.

this will answer your question www.mychinamoto.com/forums/
Because everything China is like another planet, it needs a book of it's own. This forum discusses Chinese bikes, rides in China and ride preparations mostly in China.
Your trip has been done before, check what other people have to say.
