Pretty much correct, but the climate alone will not determine a happy outcome in Kunming, especially if you are older.

Kunming has all the right things you'd want as you say to be a nice place, but I think (just like anything in life) a little bit of luck can turn it into a great place :)

@Liumingke1234 I installed WeChat. I do not know how to set up an account. I was instructed to use my QQ account number and my QQ password. I did that. WeChat said it was invalid. I do not know how to get started

@happyjack
The best thing to do is to get one of your Chinese friends to set it up for you and then just change the password.

Went to English corner at Green lake Hotel/Green Lake this week but no one there. Did see a great number of joggers and runners along the lake - Glad to see the fitness craze coming to Kunming.

Surpised to hear that. Maybe the cold weather has dwindled numbers? You went on right day/time?

Ye I went to one of those once a bout 6 years ago with another teacher. All I heard was "Nice to meet you", "where are you from" and "how since since you have been to China (total Chinglish) about a million times. When I answered the people just looked around all bugged eyes and bewildered and snickered. Last time I wasted my time on that.

@zhudan,
Maybe we were there on the same day. I found the same thing, with the exception of one 8 year old girl who could speak English almost like a native. I think she was trying to interest me in her mother!
