Hi,
I am coming through Kunming (from Canada) on the way to Jinghong on Jan 10. My flight has a nasty stopover in Kunming for about 10 hours (11 pm-9 am). I am looking for advice on whether I could (or should) sit quietly at the airport (11 pm-9 am) or get out and find lodging in Kunming. I have a similar flight on the way home (jan 25). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
thanx
kunming's downtown is easily reached by taxi (about 25 kuai) and i think there are suitable accommodation options near the airport. given the times you mention, i'd probably settle for accomm. near the airport, as getting out to the airport from downtown in the morning can be a traffic nightmare. walk out of arrivals and cross the street - there's a couple hotels there, i forget their names. the flight to jinghong is so short you can blink through it. you can have breakfast at one of the cafes on Manting Lu, fresh pineapple juice, mmmm. have a good trip.
Agree with above post. Just walk across the street to one of those small airport hotels. No need to pre-arrange it. Definitely don't try to fight the morning rush hour traffic to catch a 9 a.m. flight out. If you have a lot of luggage, you can check it overnight in the airport.
