This was for a Chinese background check. Yet all the blurts were desperate to offer their two cents on getting an American background thread.
Read the words before you type something!

True to form, always the Yanks.

Glad it was sorted in the end despite all the chefs.

@kiara
Thanks for confirming the update on the process for the domestic criminal background check. I've lived in China continuously for over a decade and have never been asked for a Chinese Criminal Background check, although I do have to provide our residence certificate with each visa renewal.

@napolean
I read the thread and had the common sense to ask the oped if her issue was US or other related. Her specific response and request hadn't popped up when I responded...I'd had the response window open for several hours before I got my round tuit, so I could respond.

I added the US/California comments just in case, to save time IF it was applicable - wasn't - c'est la vie.

As for helpful comments vs irritating US-centric comments, I don't really see how responding to a request for help is so shatteringly offensive - mistake made, but it was made in good faith.

Americans (new world) are generally culturally deprived - the place is like a gigantic island, isolated by the FAKE NEWS media, fed Hollywood stereotypes, and generally uninterested in anyone's opinion but their own, in a nation with delusions of grandeur as a global leader...so I can perhaps understand your frustration and irritation.

Statistically, americans probably overwhelmingly dominate the english speaking expat population (≥50% - is that overwhelming) in Kunming (nope - no numbers to back that up - just speculating like fake news, based on a vague recollection of hearsay), with UK and related a close second.

I was recently surprised to see a large, vibrant and potentially growing French community, Belgians, Dutch, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian, etc, so to me - This place is pretty cool - not only for it's incredibly diverse domestic minorities, but also for the incredibly diverse expat population here also!

hello, I am also interested in obtaining the Police Clearance Certificate. In my case I need it for Canadian Permanent Residence, I studied in Kunming between 2008-2010. Not sure if they would still keep records from back then? Anyway at the moment I can not go to Kunming, does anyone know how can I process this from Canada? the embassies would not help...

I would suggest that first you visit your local PSB and ask them. I assume they will be processing your certificate for recent days. They may be able to advise more generally. I would guess that the embassies could not help.

You will need to ask:
1. Your school
2. A friend

Go to local PSB with a copy of your passport (the one you used during that period, in case you renewed your passport) and have them request the document for you.

You MAY also need a power of attorney (translated and maybe authenticated)...but try it the easy way first. If it fails by proxy, the PSB will tell you what docs you need to do this remotely, via proxy.
