So I went into Carrefour on Wednesday to buy a few things. Shoppers were everywhere, and especially noteworthy were all the displays filled with mooncakes.
Mooncakes of every type could be found from cheap to expensive, delicious to... well, not-so-delicious.
On Thursday, I went back to get something I had forgotten to purchase and POOF!
All the mooncakes were gone. Just vanished into thin air, like as if the day before was just a dream.
So, my question to you: WHERE DO ALL THE UN-BOUGHT MOONCAKES GO?
Mooncake heaven?
Discount Zhou's Mooncake Shack?
Seriously, I am curious to know.
Thanks for your feedback!
After the festival they all go back to the moon.
probably to the same place as most of the mooncakes we were given, landfill.
My guess is that the mooncake producers rent floor space from the retailer for these displays. After October 1st the remaining mooncakes will be collected by the producer and returned to the depot. What happens after that is anyone's guess.
So much waste. Everytime I attend a wedding reception I see so much left over food Just wasted. WishThey would serve smaller potions per dish. Mind you This happens practically everyday. I take it
that the leftover mooncakes have to be trashed as well if They are beyond the expiration date.
It all goes to feed the pigs and make more pork.
Moon cakes are a perfect example of the circular economy; pigs provide bacon and lard to make moon cakes, pigs eat moon cakes to make bacon and lard.
Into a big box in my storage room.
