I brought my BB to Kunming after being assured by many folks in the US that theirs worked here using Chinese SIM cards.

I have a China Mobile SIM card, the phone is unlocked, and I purchased a data plan. However, I can only get the phone to work, not the internet. Is anyone using a BB successfully here? If so, can you share your settings or anything you did to tweak it? Thanks!

You can get blackberries at the market south of 小西门. I hear they are really good,, 8 元 a kilo.

I had almost the same problem. You should go to a ChinaMobile or ChinaUnicom store and tell them your problem. They will access your current contract via the internet, make some changes and in about 24 hours everything should work.

Maybe you will have to try some stores because the blackberry is not that common here in china, but I have seen them around.

For the Blackberry's settings, I don't know for sure. But the default server for ChinaMobiles internet is called "cm-net" (enter without the "" and leave the password-field blank), though I don't know where to enter it.

I went to the ChinaMobile main building at XiaoXiMen and they said they don't support blackberries, and wouldn't help me. Also, I don't (yet) have chinese language support on the phone, so they really couldn't even look at it if they had wanted to. I'm working on getting that installed.
I entered cmnet, but not cm-net, I'll have that a try. Thanks!

I am in the North now,,but the blackberry issue is the same,, China Mobile doesn't give the BIS email support that other countries have,,so to get your emails on the phone you need your email server to have BES and then give you the activation code,,after you get this your emails will work no problem,,,

The other thing you need to do is set the TCP,,,APN: cmnet user and pass are both APN

I got my BB to wotk with China Mobile no problem,,but now I have a Unicom 3G card, I tried to change the TCP to 3GWAP, but it doesnt work,, Any ideas?

I tried your settings, but still can only connect to the net using wifi. If I'm not within wifi range, or try to use an non-wifi service, then I get a "data services unavailable" message. My data services are set to on.

Any ideas, as i'm pretty much about to chuck this thing in dian chi to be honest?

If you are on China Mobile go to Advanced settings, TCP and for APN put cmnet, no need to set the other name and pass in that section. That was enough for me to get everything working,,but for China Unicom I still have no idea.

Thanks for the advice yuantongsi. Sadly I still am unable to get online, except by using wifi. I am on China mobile, though I was on unicom before and had the same problem. If you ever venture to the wenlin jie area I would actually really appreciate meeting up with you so I can compare phone setting, as dumb as that may sound.
