Holding 10% of a salary as a penatly

Plenty of migrant workers have gotten ripped off, legally or otherwise, by both Chinese-run and foreign-run enterprises near the coast, where they have no union protection, legally or illegally.
If a school offers you a bonus, you can be sure that your regular pay is lower as a result.

The education industry is still in the industrial revolution mentality, but there are some schools, unfortunately few in China, turning the status quo around.

Incentives are always better then penalties, always and everywhere.

Kid Castle is a Taiwanese franchise, and each branch manager, can make his own rules.

Withholding pay is indeed highly illegal in China.

Education in China is a fear based system, which is also the reason to give Visa, even though possible and required by law.

You are a part of the machines and the moment you replaced and dumped.

Stay away from schools like that. They walk you into a nightmare.

Get a job at a school through a friend, who can vouch for quality and safety.

@TigerTiger

I think what he meant was that such underhand practices are very widespread. Being a Taiwanese company should speak volumes are they are renowned for these kinds of games.

I think if he had meant it's ok he would have typed ''So therfore it's OK'' into the post, no? Not sure what your issue was there at all.

Withholding part of salary is essentially a loan from the employee to the employer, and one should at least be entitled to interest equivalent to what one would get from commercial market for the same amount and time.

This is so silly. If they just offered the 90% as the salary and the 10% as a completion BONUS, nobody wold be complaining. It's all about the wording. Most schools do this, to encourage stability. I love getting to the end of my contract and getting a huge pay cheque, it's a great feeling! But if I got the exact same money but was told that they had been holding MY money all year, I would have a more negative feeling towards it. It's silly, but true.

It is indeed all about the wording. The wording does two things. Firstly, inflates the base salary. Secondly, reminds the employee who holds the power, showing power is overt in some cultures; but offensive in others.
