To all my Chinese friends traveling to the USA. You have to do this to enter the USA.
Beginning November 29, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will require People’s Republic of China Passport holders who have 10-year tourist and business visas to input their information (name, birth date, employment, etc.) in an online platform before traveling to the United States.
This online platform is called the Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS). Enrollment in this system, called EVUS, will become mandatory for these travelers beginning November 29, 2016. www.EVUS.gov All Chinese nationals holding a 10-year B1/B2, B1 and B2 visa in a passport issued by the People’s Republic of China who plan to travel to the United States on or after November 29 must have a valid EVUS enrollment. Those traveling by air will not be permitted to board their flight without a successful EVUS enrollment. If arriving at a land or sea port of entry, the traveler will be required to have a valid EVUS enrollment before being admitted to the United States.
Please tell your Chinese friends. Note too that the Chinese government may have a similar requirement in the pipeline coming for USA 10 visa holders to China.
Thank You @Geezer. The details will help. Since the deadline is fast approaching I thought best to remind folks. I have the full official announcement.

The US regulation is not China specific but refers to long term, up to 10 years, visas. I am not sure if citizens of other countries can get 10 years US visas.
Several friends from China, now US citizens, have 10 year Chinese visas. They tell me they are very easy to get with no problems. One was really surprised when I told her many Americans, not "returning Chinese," seem to have difficulty in getting Chinese 10 year visas.

I have the full announcement in English and Chinese if desired.
"CBP strongly encourages all People’s Republic of China passport holders with 10-year visas to enroll now at www.EVUS.gov. For more information about the EVUS program, visit www.cbp.gov/EVUS."
Let's hope they won't need a vpn to access the registration site, it is a .gov after all.
