There's nothing that they will not copy. The scary things are things like foodstuff and medicine.

That is why I always buy in big supermarkets. You are never sure about the supply chain of small shops although I would like to support small business.

Supermarkets are just as guilty as the small shops. Thay have no quality standards. It is all about their costs.

Theres a National Geographic article on Kunming from 1940's that mentions - among other things - a guy selling fake watermelons. Using injection needle to inject water in them and thus increase their weight. So, yea, it has always been around, but in recent years it spiralled totally out of control.

Technology has made it easier to fake, but also easier for manufacturers to go after people. Just do a taobao search for the Dyson V8 and see how many of those links are now dead.

It will be interesting to see which tradition the chinese wine farms in europe will choose.

European people will be stupid enough to fall for just about any trick.

the tradition of reputation building has become a forgotten art in china. the ruling party not being communist anymore is leading the way. a parasitic plant grow on a tall tree could grow to be a tall tree? I guess not. there is a limit for not building your own reputation with roots on the ground, I guess.
