Has anyone been to Yuan Mou County's Red Earth Forest recently??? My friend and I are wanting to go over the Dragon Boat Festival weekend, but aren't sure the best way to get there: bus or train?

Yuan Mou - Tulin in Chuxiong should not be confused with the Red soil of Dongchuan, Kunming.

You can go by bus from Kunming and stop at Wuding, Chuxiong (Lion Mountain) this is a good place to see for a few hours and then get back on the bus and go to Tulin. Wuding (Lion Mountain) is the halfway point and it is 94 km (2 hours) northwest of Kunming. The Soil Forest (Tu Lin) includes two separate areas. Wu Mao is where most tourists visit and it is located 40 km north of Yuan Mou. You can rent a minivan to Wu Mao for 60-100 Yuan. Xin Hua is located 60 km west of Yuan Mou and you can rent a minivan for 100-200 YUAN.
Or you can take a bus from Kunming to Chuxiong and then from Chuxiong to Heijing, Chuxiong - www.gokunming.com/[...]
From Heijing you can take the train to Yuan Mou on the following day (1000-1100).
Or you can take the slow train from Kunming to Heijing and then onto Yuan Mou. From Kunming to Heijing is 5 hours by train. It is slow but it is a nice ride (may be crowded because of the holiday).
You have a couple of options depending on your schedule. Bus from Kunming to Yuan Mou is the fastest way to get there. All highway - about 3 hours. NW Bus Station - Puji Road.
