If there were a direct China Eastern flight to London Heathrow from Changshui then common sense would make me 'consider' it. Even then it would take a lot to entice me away from ThaiAir: KMG-BKK-LHR. For me, China Eastern conjures up memories of delayed flights, cancelled flights, meals that remind me of school dinners and the feeling of having been taken hostage. Hopefully their international flights are better.
direct flights make huge difference on price and time so worth sacrifice on food and other things
I booked KLM in the end. Not direct, but very cheap and good service. Return ticket from Amsterdam to Kunming for 500 Euros.
That's 3673 kuai. Amazing huh?
@Flengs
You got the connecting flight to Kunming included the 500 Euro?
Is it the KMG via CTU?
Wow, that is a good price!
Actually, it's Amsterdam - Hangzhou, Hangzhou - Kunming and then 3 months later Chengdu - Amsterdam direct flight (because I'll come from Banna) for 527 Euros. It was booked during some sort of discount week.
Just beware, Hangzhou Kunming is like a 3 1/2 hour flight, so might be a little rough after a long haul. Treat yourself at the airport during the layover if you got time.
China Eastern conjures up memories of delayed flights, cancelled flights, although, on board service is excellent by friendly staff...
Pilots are paid peanuts and are highly overworked....

''Incident China Eastern B738 at Wuhan on Jul 9th 2014, knock, knock, anyone there?''
...landed on taxiway? WTF
... both tower controllers asleep? WTF
Why am I not surprised?
