Just jump!

@Nap Man, I'm messing with you. I think you're very sharp and make good points. I may have taken your America is a cess pit remark elsewhere too hard. In some ways, sadly, it is. And it bothers me. Truth hurts stuff. I guess it is like having the little brother you can pick on, but if someone else touches them on the playground you all knuckles in a heartbeat. So, cheers to you man and time to move on. You have a good attitude yourself.

In fact Nap I am simply in the moribund throes of the often fatal virus called mattcelius millerika where I have descending in the time wasting trolling phase of the disease. I'm getting the shot today. Before I begin creating alternate identities and arguing with myself. And I said I was going to take a hiatus and I think I should.

@dazzer I may have three or four problems :( and you say you're a homosapien. really? you don't like girls?

And with that I need a break from the fun stuff here. My one month or more hiatus begins NOW. really, it does. Sorry Matt, you'll have to find someone else to love and loathe until I am back.

What a terrible situation for everybody involved. It breaks my heart to think that the woman contemplating suicide thought that was her only way out. What a cruel world we live in; people feel the only way to escape is to end their own life. It's absolutely disgraceful that some people were encouraging her to jump, but not all humans are good. I'm not saying those who were urging her to jump are bad people, but they definitely made an error in judgement and seem to lack empathy. I know making generalizations is usually bad also, but perhaps because Chinese culture is so focused on containing your emotions in public places, that once one idiot was overcome with the excitement of the situation, mob-mentality took over and others joined it. I sincerely hope that she made it and is seeking help for whatever issues led her to that situation.

@Billie
I don't think it is about containing emotions, I think Chinese are apt enough to contain emotions without asking a suicidal person to jump.

Chinese have a lack of empathy and disregard for others people suffering or life [not all of course, there are many helpful sweet people here].

It's entertaining to see someone pop open and die [If the army of spectators don't show that clear enough].

Go to an internet bar and see kids happily watching gore Baidu-videos of gruesome traffic accidents. I once, at a very bad traffic accident, saw someone shoot a selfie with the brain that was spread on the ground.

There also was this photo on baidu once, where and old man with his little grandkid poked a stick in some brain, or insides of a crash victim [spread on the ground], with his 4 or 5 year old boy at his hands.

I think it has to do with the 'no-eating-decade' a few decades ago.

Constant announcing, fear of this fear of that, dying and not food, which made people cold.
In the past, in the famine people who were not family or related, had to die, so you could live. But someone should tell the common bloke, that starving days are over.

The only thing I haven't made sense of, is...that in Europe in times of famine and war, people, even strangers, stuck together and helped. That is where I see a cultural difference.

Perhaps a different value system. Religion probably has something to do with it and of course as always, education.

Here we go again. Christ, can't anyone here refrain from complaining about China, and insulting Chinese, for, say, a couple of hours?

The Dudeson's (1106 posts) • 0

I didn't complain, I issued an understanding for the root of a problem [if you think it's a problem,...I mean unless you don't mind, good old grandpa poking a stick in your brain after kicking the bucket,...I do!]

And I didn't insult Chinese, this stuff happens, I know you don't wanna hear it but it is still there. Remember [what was her name ..Yuan Yuan]
So I will try to understand why, isn't that even better than just accepting it, this way you can have a conversation about the problem. But from a perspective of comprehension and thus open a dialogue, in which both parties can learn from each other.

Or? is your idea just; smack in the face, it must be like this for all eternity? And wouldn't that also relieve China from a chance, to become even more awesome. I hope that's not your strategy. A stronger [not power/military/economy] China, will benefit everyone, especially Chinese, don't you think?

good theory Dudeson, regarding the effect past food shortages and political campaigns had on the mindset of the people who survived. Those generations are the most numerous (due to people having 5-6 children on average in those days) and because of the Chinese reverence for elders (zhang bei) and a tendency for careers to rise in in seniority over time, also the most powerful and influential.
