"Yunnan's first high-speed railway completed" per CCTV.com
CCTV reports a high-speed railway connecting Kunming with Shanghai has just been completed. But not really, testing will begin and the line opened to the public by the end of the year.
I wouldn't get too excited as the line is only about 380 kilometers.
They say that great challenges were overcome during the course of construction. I think the greatest feat was stretching 380 Km of high speed track over the 2,000 Km between KM and Shanghai

The high-speed Shanghai–Kunming Passenger Dedicated Line, scheduled to be completed in (2015), is expected to shorten the travel time between Shanghai and Kunming from 37 hours to less than 9 hours. This line follows the same route as the existing Shanghai–Kunming Railway from Shanghai on the East China Sea to Kunming via (Hangzhou) Zhejiang, (Nanchang) Jiangxi, (Changsha) Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan province.

All they have to do is connect to Guiyang for me anyways, since the Guiyang Guangzhou line has been operational almost a year. Tickets sell out though.
