There are many foreigners (I know some) here who do not have GoKunming accounts, and never visit this website. I mean, it is a fine website and everything, but it's not like all foreigners have to have an account here to live in Kunming.

To be fair to Kunming. Not every city in the world is known for its local cuisine. Sometimes a city is known for one dish, sometimes it is known for nothing.
Even regional foods, some regions are known for great cuisine, for example Provence. Other regions not. Sometimes an area is known for one food, for example Cheddar in Somerset (cheddar cheese) or Melton Mowbray (pies) in Leicestershire, England. London's famous favourite of yesteryear, jellied eels; I am not sure many people still eat them.
Some of the local foods were only eaten by poor people. Lava bread (seaweed) nutritions but I couldn't eat it 3 times a day. Oatcakes, love them but again I would still miss bread. Can't get much more simple than spuds, to my Chinese wife they are pretty much all the same, but to me...
Hugo thinks that because he has been a member of GK since 2009, then he knows more about the city than anyone who has registered after him.
Yeah there is this great Yunnan Dali flavour place, also a variety of Dai and Xishuanbanna places, they all have great menus, just can't pass 50 yards without a mixian place.
As I said Kunming food is feces. Yunnan food is fantastic.
@Tiger
Usually I would agree, but if you leave Kunming, each village has a mountain of different items and delicacies, some stay,... some are gone, some are fused with other items. It's the same, as if you'd go to Naples and literally every shop sells pizza, nothing else, around, just pizza, in every shop.
Yunnan is probably one of the most fertile place in China and actually even Mile [besides the f*cking mixian had a pile of different vegetables and dishes when I went, they were all over the place.] Chuxiong, also very big cities but they somehow have managed to keep their brains working and make food different from Mixian. And why wouldn't they?
醉云南 is overprices and the food is mediocre at best. To say 醉云南 is a representative of "local" food, is akin to saying Salvador's is a representative of western food.
Tonyaod, if you think that is mediocre at best, then I am just curious what food (anywhere in the world) do you think is good or great?
It is naturally expected for people to gain knowledge about a certain place over a period of time.
This thread is about life in Kunming, not about life in China.
This is why I usually ask 2 questions; How long have you been living in China? and How long have you been living in Kunming?
I have been in China for 12 years but 11 of those years have been in Kunming and Yunnan.
Example - I am sure some people would be surprised/curious if I was able to provide detailed information about life in Guangzhou although I have visited there but never actualy lived there.
@goldie122 their is a certain troll who has been kicked out of GoKunming numerous times and he keeps coming back. Most longer term posters recognize him and i suspect he is back.
Greeting - When I encounter a laowai on the street I always make it a point to acknowledge and greet them as we pass by. Most of the time the person will reciprocate in kind but there have been a few instances where the other person completely ignores me and looks the other way.
Yunnan - When I see a single laowai or a laowai couple at a bus or train station I always ask if they need any help just as a courtesy. Many times they did have some questions and they were grateful for some assistance. However, if I see a laowai with a chinese person I will not ask if they need help.
