Getting english teaching work over the summer

@Liu
If there are fewer people to do roughly the same amount of work, with a similar number of schools competing for the best teachers available, salaries should rise out of competition. Simple economics. Of course I'm aware that these are not laws of nature and therefore not necessarily true.

@Napolean was probably referring to a British visa (NI means National Insurance number). Applying for one of those is as frustrating as he says, and yes, including house deeds. My Chinese wife submitted over 50 pages of documentation to get her UK visa, and she is married to me, a British National. Shengen Visas are much easier in comparison.

If you go to UK there are hoops to jump through to get an NI number. This entitles you to free medical care, and access to the welfare state. Sick pay, unemployment benefits, pensions, and other statutory benefits like statutory leave (sick, maternity/paternity leave, etc.).

And what am I entitled to in China, apart from making social security payments (what happened to that one btw?)?

Regards pay. There was a discussion on here about acting pay a few weeks ago. Basically, someone said that if they wanted to work for low pay, yah! boo! sucks! to everyone else.

That is why the actors unions are so organized back home, and it is a 'closed shop'. It is a pity that there is no teacher's union we could join in China.

I think that's the catch here. Chinese government does not want foreigners to settle too easily, because that would eventually speed up the uncontrolled crumbling of communist rule. Unions of all kind would do the same.

@JanJal
Exactly! They just want to give the appearance that they are 'developing', It's all a show.

I don't know how other countries but in China if I want to stay here with my Chinese wife and our kids, I'm still not allowed to work to support our family. ( have no Bc degree which req.for work visa ) . There is already lots of people so no need more, 'non-educated'. I guess marriage with laowai is also not supported here.

If anyone needs summer work there is a listing in classifieds for this :

Our center is an international teaching program for very young children (1~3 years old)."

International teaching of English to one year olds. Awesome. I guess you start off with mama dada then go to poopoo peepee ASAP.

Goldie, I agree. Totally dumb to teach a foreign language to a one year old is dumb. Unless you mean my joke is dumb. But no problem, both are pretty dumb.
