Ideally, most people would like a 2nd child as the first child rolls into school, about 5 year difference. It would be interesting if you could interview some women or couples as to why they do not want a 2nd child. I would say that a 35 yr old woman really does not want to go through this process again, especially if she is not working and enjoys her freedom and money. Another kid will really put a damper on playing majong with friends, visits to beauty spas, and shopping.
I realise this is getting off topic. I ask students if they'd like a younger brother or sister, the answer is mostly in the negative. However, I've been fortunate to have a number of students with siblings. Ask them if they'd prefer to have been an only child like many of their peers and the answer has always been an emphatic 'no'.
