Reliable driving instructor

Darryl (32 posts) • 0

Hello all. I'd like wifey to learn to drive but... don't want her to learn to drive like a cretin.

She won't let me teach her (probably for the best) and as I understand she will need to go through a registered school to take the test and will only be able to drive on the road with her provisional license if accompanied by registered instructor. So, I'm looking for a driving instructor who's not a dolt. Any tips?

My thoughts exactly. That's why I felt I had to ask...

In my experience the worst drivers, in order, are: audis, BMWs, mercedes, bus drivers, driving instructors, taxi drivers, everyone else, ambulance drivers.

Ambulance drivers are only the best drivers because they don't seem to be in a hurry.

In my experience the bus drivers are the best drivers; cabbies come next best, but I have made no observations of ambulance drivers. I've never seen a bus driver cause an accident in Kunming.

@Alien.
You must be a real alien or simply not cycle in Kunming to know that bus drivers are terible. The only reason why you might not see accidents is because everybody is afraid of them amd keeps distance.

taxi and truck drivers get my vote for worst and most dangerous drivers. Only reason they do not cause more accidents is because everyone expects the worst from them.

@Darryl ... if you are in Kunming then I can give you a number . but the instructor doesn't speak English. The school is big with about hundred training cars and reputed one too .

My suggestion is to let your wife get into a school for the licence in China but she will need help from a non-Chinese person for good driving habit .

My driving experience in China not good as other people posted before me . :-(

If you still like to get the contact the please add me on wechat : mun2003dhk

cheers

I've often wondered what the hell they teach learner drivers here. I see people pointlessly indicating to go around tight bends, but not indicating to make turns, change lanes, pull over, pull out. Are they taught this way or do they just forget all that they're taught as soon as they get on the road alone?

And on the bus drivers being the best, not sure about that, many times I've been almost hit by bus drivers pulling up at bus stops regardless of the fact I am riding past the bus stop in the bike lane!

I agree that both bus & taxi drivers are a bit pushy, but I think the first characteristic of a good driver in traffic is possession of the skill not to cause accidents. And "Let the bus go first" (some kind of British or American slogan, perhaps exists elsewhere) is a good one, but I confess I do not cycle in Kunming.

As to driving instructors, I wonder what they teach too.
