Yunnan coffee

The Yunnan coffee harvest is starting soon if not already in progress in a few places down south. So generally you will find last years crop these days. How many kilos do you want and when?

Thanks, I wasn't aware of when coffee is harvested around here. I figure it followed a similar schedule to tea, but apparently not. Around what month/time of year does Yunnan coffee typically start to show up on the market?

I'm not looking for much. Maybe around 2kg to bring back to my my brother, who roasts his own beans. I'll be visiting him from December 5th, so I'm looking to get my hands on them sooner than later. I gave him some earlier this year and he really liked them, so I figured I'd show up with a bit more.

Long-Dragon is right about the timing. The harvest is just about to go into full swing, and then there's processing time. You probably won't get the latest batch by the time you want to leave.

I buy most of my green beans on taobao. Search for 生咖啡豆 (raw coffee beans) and 云南

Thanks for checking. Worst case I can always just mail my brother some when I get back too, but it would be nice to show up with some in hand. Anyway, appreciate the effort.

I am in Pu'er and the coffee harvest is just starting. Some growers have new beans, but it is still early in the season and the beans wont be as good as they will be in a month or so.

There is a fantastic coffee shop at Beicheng Xiao Qu. The boss sells coffee beans, free for coffee. You can try many different type of coffee in his shop. The shop's address: 102 room 3rd Unit of 23rd Building, Beicheng Xiao QU. The boss cell No. is 138-8810-6586

I woudnt be worry about right timing.I was in different farms or coffee companies, many different times, they had always lots of it from previous harvest. Not big demand for coffee from Simao or Baoshan, as they claim. Its just all blablabla, we export a 100tons etc. Just Chinese way talk. So dont worry. Its not same as buying a fresh tea, not that busy around the coffee.

@Tracy: I believe you are talking about Lanyard Coffee. I agree, it is an excellent place. He doesn't sell green beans though, only roasted beans.

I'm sure he'd be happy to give some pointers about buying green coffee beans in Yunnan, though his opinion of Yunnan coffee is quite low.

@Alexez: I don't think it's a huge deal either. Green coffee beans can be stored for a long time. Fresher is of course better, but your average home roaster would be happy with last year's crop.

I know the bragging you're talking about, but Simao does sell quite a lot of beans. Starbucks and Nestle are both doing quite a bit of sourcing there (not exactly a ringing endorsement), and other companies are taking notice.
