As I remember, i saw a thick book with yunnan photos in Mandarin book store in Wen Hua Xiang (Wen Lin Jie area), but didnt really pay attention on the title.

The Exploration of Yunnan by Jim Goodman is the best classic introduction to the province. It's always available at Mandarin Books and is now in to its second or third printing. It's not all photos but has context as well.

In my opinion, most of the Chinese-published coffee table style photobooks are really weak on content, lack English, and are limited to one or more major tourist sites.

An interesting suggestion. Personally I feel that book is more like an overstyled fake-antiquity promoting north-western Yunnan focused coffee table look-good book, with a lack of balanced regard for ethnic identity and customs, natural features and other aspects of the province that The Exploration of Yunnan book covers far more effectively. Just my opinion.

I agree with Voltaire, but note that the newest edition of the Goodman book has a different name - it's YUNNAN: SOUTH OF THE CLOUDS - better organized than the original 2000 volume, and with new material & some new photos.
