Anybody can recommend hotel/hostel in Ruili? Im a backpacker style traveler, so budget. How much is the bus ticket there from KM? Is anybody here who goes there often or knows the town and around quite well? If u have any friend there and could pass me the contact ( PM ),would be great. I need to check something before I go.
In Yunnan province, you'll find youth hostels in Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, Lugu Lake, Shangri La, Tengchong, Jinghong, Yuanyang, Wenshan, Jianshui, and Bingzhongluo.
No hostels in Ruili. But dude, hotels in second/third tier Yunnan cities are cheap. You should be able to find a private hotel room in Ruili for 50-100 RMB. Obviously, you get what you pay for, but for 100 you should be able to find something perfectly decent, and for 50 something slightly less than decent.
Bus tickets from Kunming to Ruili are over 300 RMB these days. It's a long ass ride (~15 hours). Your'e better off breaking it up with stops in Dali, Baoshan, and Tengchong.
Just keep in mind that not so much to do there, expect, well, dai noodles, jade and maybe fresh fruit juices - if thats something.
Ruili used to be a real bad place. Drugs, prostitutes, trafficking... but a modern layer was put on this and now its sort of a place without identity, sort of.
If youre just going to take a look, then maybe not a bad idea to actually put main focus on Tengchong instead.
a place without identity...sounds terrible, but makes sense.
I was there 3y ago, had a fun . Rented bike and cycle to near by villages, to the botanic garden or waterfall. Maybe because it was my first touch of 'Myanmar', I had a good memories about the place. That time I couldn't find any hostel but was lucky enough find 80kuai hotel between those 200up. Thats why I asked about accommodation these days. Seems to not changed. The main reason Im asking, checking anybody has a friend there, coz my Gf wants a Myanmar cat. We saw one in KM on market 400rmb and I wasn't sure to buy it, we also didn't have cash with us, I was about to going to work etc. We went next day, and sold out. Guy sad it was just once off, some friend gave it to him. So since then I dont hear anything else, just : I wan Myanmar mao :-( I was hoping in Ruili get lucky.
ok, you made me google myanmar cat. If it's the same as the wiki for Burmese cat, then maybe save yourself a trip to Ruili.

Yep,
sp.yimg.com/[...]
so when can I get this creature :-) ?
We checked internet, and they r ridiculously expensive here.
The guy was selling his one for only 400rmb .
We have those cats in Zimbabwe, I've seen them in Europe and at pet markets in China.
The chances of you getting one in Burma are the same as anywhere else, maybe even less, sure, it's called a Burmese Blue but that's its breed name.
It was a breed made famous when the British were in charge or Burma and had their look developed from breeding with other European cats, Burmese is just the name. The cat you saw in Kunming would have probably had close ancestors in Europe, not Burma. Your normal cat in Burma will look the same as your normal cat back home.
let me get this straight: you want to go to Ruili to buy a cat, then put the poor thing in a box and take it back on the bus back to KM? The cat is going to hate you!
so he is going to ruili for cheap pussy........
