Best Chinese food in Kunming?

I would say, in all seriousness, that I like Yunnan food, -a lot.

Other than some low nutrition Kunming snacks, such as mixian, over the bridge noodles, with a teaspoon full of greasy maozi, and more oil in the soup. IMO kunming food is terrible! That said, the moment you get out of Kunming and eat local Yunnan dishes, I am always blown away, by the variety and flavors, and I found plenty of the dishes to be less greasy and not so artificially flavor enhanced.

So Kunming food? -SUCKS!
Greater Yunnan food, [as with all other local foods] if prepared well and healthy? - FANTASTIC!

Over the bridge noodles is not bad, espescially for those who didnt bother install heating at home during winter; the big bowl of boiling soup functions like central heating system. When you add a few glasses baijiu and a chongqing "mala" hotpot in evening, you dont need them crappy heating systems in january at all. If you want to turn the heat to tropical level, you add a sauna there after the hotpot, and you can adjust january to "tropical level".

I'm disappointed with pretty much all Chinese food. Tasteless unless you add lajiao in my opinion. Some of the street food type snacks are ok, Guandu baba for example.

For some reason I like the food better in Guangzhou and Shenzhen than in Kunming, however, I prefer Kunming food over Chengdu or Chongqing.

in all seriousness there are some restaurants in Kunming which serve tasty food. I don't know their names though, being unable to read anything beyond super basic hanzi.

Mixian is best viewed as a snack, not a meal - even if its quite a big bowl. Don't make the mistake I made recently of having it for lunch on a work day, I was hungry all afternoon until dinner.
