Whether it's American or English, accents play a part, but I think Chinese are probably wanting the easy Hollywood styled accent they get in films. Definitely not any south USA drawl or northern English lol
The only Chinese who don't struggle with my accent is my wife and her mum, never works as good when out and about trying to speak the language lol

The folks running the ad, whether they're Chinese or not, say they want Americans because the textbooks they're using are set for American pronunciation.
......and American spelling! Colour, aluminium, etc will just confuse the poor students.
Parents brought up watching 'Friends' and wanting to send the kids to an American university. Looking for every gnats whisker of advantage.
Canadian teachers sound just like American teachers but can also understand the difference in spelling.
