I was just wondering if there is a website or some way of finding out the bus routes in Kunming?
I mainly just want to find out which buses I can take from Rixin Road into the centre, and which side of the road I catch a bus in the direction of the centre (heading east or west?)
If anybody could help me that would be great :)
They sell these handy pocket size bus routes book at many places that you buy the bus/train cards. Usually the vendors sell them for about 1 yuan or 2.

I also have a couple of questions about the subway; What time do trains run until in the evening/night? And when I buy a ticket, is there an option to do this in English? I don't think I could manage it in Chinese yet :(

I've never bought one of those books but I've seen them. Maybe someone else could give you the name and more info.
Amylaura - I recommend you find yourself an English major university student and teach her for FREE. Or you can find any of the language exchange people who advertise in the classifieds. This way you can both improve your language skills and she can help you with every day issues such as buses and trains.
Baidu maps will help with the bus routes. Just paste the Chinese characters to search for the road. The bus numbers will be listed in Arabic numerals.
For subway times, there was an article published on this site with trains schedules. There were a few mistakes with the times though. I'm not sure if the editor has updated them.

The subway is easy - all options, announcements and signs are in both Chinese and English. To buy a ticket for casual travel, just use the automated machine. The home screen has an English button. I believe the subways out our way (heading North) finish around 10/10.30pm
