I am an Internet idiot, attempting to see something of the outside world. Have just wasted 1&1/2 hours trying to find out what you see when you exit the Louvre - isn't there a small church directly in front of you? I've been trying to get street-level webcams, detailed maps of the city etc. - very many of the sites are blocked, the maps I can get don't show what the building is, etc. - many of these sites no doubt blocked because of the Chinese government's idiot war with google - my God it's one of the world's great cities and I can't remember what's in front of the Louvre. What I need to know is simply: if there's a church or chapel DIRECTLY in front of the main entrance, perhaps across the Place, what is it? If not, what is there?

OK, I got it, sorry to bother you - Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, right?

Damned censorship - VPNs come & go, but mindcops live forever.

Actually, VPNs and mind cops are a pseudo-symbiotic relationship. The VPNers continuously punch holes through firewalls and the mind cops continually plug them...both keeping each other sustainably employed.

Yeah - between them they produce nothing but bother for those of us who'd like to benefit from advances in technology. But it starts with the mindcops, and that starts from the desire of political control freaks to maintain power.

ja, there is a church where i liked to zone, but it is not on the main entrance

for internet, i dont know why people are so fascinated with their phones and such. the numbers of brainwashing commercials, the apps they install freely on ur device, the cookies that spot you, etc..., make me feel internet is mostly money orientated, has no thought about ecology nor privacy

Alien (3819 posts) • 0

@Gompo, I think you're right, it is mostly money oriented - how would you expect it to be otherwise, given the global economic structure within which it exists?

Gompo (152 posts) • 0

i dont know, do i?, but i think it is far from technology efficience it could be. i dont deny there is good but i think it is still young, inefficient and contradictory.

for instance, i believe it could b more eco logically orientated, like using minimum resources, bandwith, upgrading, etc...

The whole world could be more ecologically oriented, but the economic system in place does not adequately promote that - nor does the political system, which reflects the economic system.
But what ecological damage occurs as a result of things like bandwidth, etc.? I don't know much of anything about the effects of the internet on ecology.
