Thinking of renting in Chenggong. What is there? Cafes' bars, markets.
Where exactly they located?
Any other tips about living there, especially from those who do, welcome.

Been there for about 1 year now. I enjoy there to Kunming much more. Still limited infrastructure, but you can find most anything. Food is more fresh and cheaper. Very little traffic and noise. Some really great restaurants about. There are Chinese bars about but I don't do bars, so I can't say if they are good. A lot of things are concentrated around the Polytechnical College.
With the train working now, it takes 50 minutes to get to Kunming.
It's quite interresting to see this area develope. I'm presently living on the shores of fu xian lake and Chengong is in my sights for the future...
They are presently digging a tunnel wich will replace the bumpy, potholed, broken up pavement, dusty, dirty, noisy, ugly, extremly dangerous road between Chenggong and Fu xian lake..
I never use that road, i go through yang zhong hai.
I have a good impression so far but I just moved here to Cheng gong recently. I need more time to form a real opinion. Bucko is right that most of the stuff to do is next to Ligong Daxue.
Check out Cafe Paris across from the University, not bad in my opinion.
I like that it is quiet here and there is more room for my kids to run around.
I can't see Ligong Daxue on google maps. Can you give a couple of street names, or a google map link or latlong please?
@tigertiger - Ligong Daxue is on the southwest corner of Juxian St and Jingming Nan Lu. You should see a large "half circle" of roads and streets in that area on google maps. That is Ligong Daxue. Just south of that, close to the University Town subway station is Minorities University.
Correction - southeast corner of the intersection not southwest.
