The Intercontinental is signposted from both Hongtaxi Lu and Yinghai Lu. Last time we were there a number of taxis passed through.
The Intercontinental is on the same road as, and close to the DianChi Hotel, as well as several major industrial/government convalescent hospitals. Perhaps know to some taxi drivers.
The road/turnoff is Yijing Lu, and this is a 'ratrun' (shortcut used by many locals) between Hongtaxi Lu and Yinghai Lu. Many taxis use this 'shortcut' to avoid traffic.
Has anyone been out to the Brilliant Resort and Spa along Yangzonghai (阳宗海)? It's $200+ a night, but looks quite nice.
For getting to the Intercontinental, we're planning to drive, so no need to worry about a taxi finding it.
sorry guys but I have no details about the hotel I've mentioned before. My wife has no contacts. we were there cause is affiliated to some air-companies, and our flight lend terribly delayed. - more than 6 months ago -
We asked an hotel close to the bus station and indeed it's less than 10 min from north bus station,by cab, crossing some construction buildings (maybe now already grow up something there around). They have some conference building in the same compound. A huge pool, a normal one in gardens. Sorry if I cannot help more.
OK Alex I'll admit I always go by car not taxi, so my advice on that not 100% lol
;o)
Could I be suggested an affordable place to stay near Roberts School.I want to stay for a month.
Just an update, my wife and I spent a night at the Intercontinental Hotel and LOVED it! The service was excellent, the food was amazing, the gardens were very relaxing. Most of the staff speaks decent English, though if you know some Chinese then you'll have no issues at all.
We got a package that included a 200rmb food voucher, 2 hour bike rentals to ride near Dianchi, and welcome drinks. The exercise area is nice, and the pool is very nice. There are 3 restaurants at the hotel, 2 Chinese and 1 Western. Our room included their breakfast buffet, which is one of the best breakfasts I've had in a LONG time—and includes both Chinese and Western food.
I would highly recommend this hotel for someone needing a nice, relaxing, refreshing day away from the hustle and bustle of Kunming life.
intercontinental is the most expensive hotel on the planet. for that kind of money, i'd rather fly to nepal for the weekend.
@Magnifico, but if you have 3 toddlers at home with a sitter and can't go too far away, it's kind of a good alternative to flying to Nepal (though I'd love to try that out too). It is a bit expensive, but for our first night away from kids in 4 years, it was worth it.
@Sathya
There are a couple of reasonably priced hotels near Robert's School.
Junxuyuan Hotel, No.395-1,West Dongfeng Road
东风西路 395-1号 军需苑宾馆
...is 2 minutes walk away. Doubles at about 150RMB.
The Home Inn (opposite) is better but a little more expensive.
