Assuming she is happy with whatever oven you got.
One thing that should please her :o)
Brand new, full size, fan oven.....
Check on your sisters planned cake recipe, and suggest she has plan B and C.
If she wants to make a traditional fruit cake, using dried mixed fruit, then you may have more difficulty than opting for a sponge cake recipe.
OK will do tigertiger, any reasons for this though, are dried mixed fruit hard to get hold of in local stores?
Dried mixed fruit, as an ingredient, is a specific blend of dried raisins, orange peel, and something else. It also has a pretty consistent moisture content.
If dried mixed fruit is AN ingredient then you will need to research the ratios of what fruits and see if you can find them locally.
A lot of dried fruit in China (exception of dried grapes) is either candied, or dried almost totally for making teas.
Also if you need spices, be aware that many 'standard' cooking spices cannot be found here. For example, ground mixed spice (again usually a set ration of specific spices) may be hard to find and I have given up on finding allspice.
I don't ever recall seeing cream of tartar either.
This is the shop linked from the ad banner tigertiger mentioned earlier: shop67279428.taobao.com
They are located in Beishi Qu.
That's the one, thanks @yankee.
The shop/business is in N. Kunming not far from Metro if memory serves, but I cannot find the map anymore, sorry.
Thinking maybe I'll tell her she needs to bring in her ingredients for the foundation of the cake then! The fruit, spices etc obviously not eggs and stuff lol She was asking me all this for she was expecting problems here ;o)
Thanks for the tips!
Save yourself a stuck-in-traffic-jam-search-and-rescue-heart-attack. Order them on taobao and sit back. If the vendor is in Kunming area you sometimes get the stuff within 2 days even.
lol, options, options.....
Well I got a few weeks so maybe taobao order could be good, think wife has an account :)
