I'm looking for some interesting Chinese tv shows, tv dramas, movies etc. My Chinese is let's say intermediate and I'd like to improve it. But so far I cannot find any interesting shows to watch. I like a lot of different subject, so it can be anything from comedies through history programs to cooking shows etc, literally anything as long as it's in putonghua. Any recommendations? :)

You may not share my taste, of course, but I really enjoy watching 今日说法. There are many interesting stories and lots of different regional accents to listen to. There's an episode every day, and you can find old programmes online.

One movie I like is 活着 With Ge You and Gong Li, an oldie, also a bit of a history lesson.

The Ang Lee movies are also quite good as they speak very standard Chinese.

Basically any Chinese movie is OK, you can put on the Chinese subtitles as this helps you pick up words you might miss otherwise.

Tv shows very interesting and popular ones include 咱们结婚吧, 北京爱情故事, 小爸爸, 爸爸去哪儿, 我在北京挺好的. the last one is a recent one and 舌尖上的中国 is undoubtedly very good but maybe a bit hard to catch up with their fast commentary (at least for me it is). But there is another tv series knows as Happy Chinese or 快乐汉语, its a tv serial meant for foreigners to improve their Chinese skills.

For movies, Yes i think 活着 is excellent, and maybe all the movies of Zhang Yimou are awesome! Even Feng Xiaogang and Chen Gaige's movies are also very good.
