I found a new doctor 3 years ago and his recipe is much better then I had before. If you want a copy of the recipe send me a PM. However, it is only a guide as TCM is specifically prescribed for each individual.

@nailer. I was given a powdery mixture that I dissolved in hot water, twice a day. It was very effective for my seasonal allergies (and certainly less harsh on my body than antihistamines), but I had to stop using it after a few months because it gave me way too much energy. What I mean was that it was like taking Viagra everyday. I'm not joking! You don't want to be standing on the bus when it kicks in!

I have been using TCM medicine for my seasonal (Aug - Oct) allergies for the last 10 years with great success. I recently found a TCM medicine that comes in PILL form at a local pharmacy which is also very effective - Tong Qiao Bi Yan Pian - 通窍鼻炎片 -

This medicine includes many of the same ingredients found in my TCM prescription such as:

Cang Er Zi - 苍耳子
Fang Feng - 防风
Huang Qi - 黄芪
Bai Zhi - 白芷
Xin Yi Hua - 辛夷花
Bai Zhu - 白术

@Howietp
If you're still around, thanks for the amusing post...you should mention this to the TCM next time you visit - he'll get a kick out of hearing about your interesting "side" effect...or maybe he was actually just messing with you...

This particular thread started quite late in 2014 - June. We're not half way through April but I appear to be suffering from 'seasonal' allergic symptoms already. Never remember this happening so soon in the year.

@nnoble, it could be a reaction to organo-phospates, as they are spraying lot of pesticides at the moment. The first bout of warm weather and everyone is spraying. I think the government has declared war on mosquitoes, as Yunnan now has Zika as well as Dengue fever, both spread by the same species of mosquito.

Just a guess.

They are chipping lots of trees. Add high winds and to that, and you get tons more plant particles in air than average. Also, in general plants are blooming and flowering earlier every spring now thanks to global warming.

The cherry blossoms were still a fantastic display this year but earlier and slightly less spectacular than last year. Wind is definitely a factor in my case, just wind sensitive eyes and then add in whatever the wind may be carrying (see Tiger above) Local spraying I can smell and feel even before seeing it take place. Roll-on the rainy season. Meanwhile I found smearing Hydromol ointment (Vaseline type paste) around my eyes not only relieves the itching but also acts as a preventative treatment and at least as effective as nuclear powered anti-histamines (Xyzal).
