Living Threads — Celebrating Sani Culture
The morning and afternoon event will feature two screenings of the new documentary Living Threads — Revitalizing indigenous embroidery in rural China, produced by CloudBridge Productions.
The day will also feature lectures on Sani culture, handicrafts for sale and an exhibition of photography and Sani embroidery.
The day will be capped by a performance by the Sani band Manhu.
Event schedule
11am: Opening ceremony, event introduction
11:15am: Presentation on Sani embroidery by Bi Yueying and Ang Gui
11:30am: Screening of Living Threads — Revitalizing indigenous embroidery in rural China
Noon: Break for lunch, with food and drink specials at The Park Bar and Restaurant
2pm: Performance by Sani band Manhu
3:15pm: Presentation on Sani embroidery by Bi Yueying and Ang Gui
3:45pm: Screening of Living Threads — Revitalizing indigenous embroidery in rural China
4:15pm: Closing ceremony
If you haven't seen or heard the band yet, they are arguably Yunnan's finest current musical act. Their performances draw on Sani folk music played with traditional instruments while also incorporating more modern and electrified sonic elements.
