Thrills and Tradition: Inside the Colorful Yunnan Paradise Theme Park

By in on

A short drive from the bustling heart of Kunming takes you to Colorful Yunnan Paradise, a theme park where the vibrancy of Yunnan's diverse cultures is creatively showcased. While the Yunnan Nationalities Village offers a window into the province's diverse traditions, this amusement park elevates the experience, blending the allure of ancient cultures with contemporary thrills.

Situated within the scenic precincts of the Colorful Yunnan-Ancient Dian Kingdom in Jinning District (晋宁区), the park is a celebration of Yunnan's diverse cultural tapestry. It's a place where the ancient tales of Yunnan unfold, where the rhythms of ethnic dances fill the air, and where the spirit of adventure awaits around every corner.

The park is divided into seven unique zones, each inspired by a different aspect of Yunnan's vibrant culture. From the floral wonders of the Four Seasons Flower Sea (四季花海) to the mystical vibes of the Primeval Mystery Land (洪荒秘境), every area offers its own kind of magic. For families and kids, the Children's Dream World (童梦世界) is a playground of imagination, while thrill-seekers can get their adrenaline fix on roller coasters designed to evoke the region's dramatic landscapes.

But it's not just about rides. The Ethnic Grand Theater (民族大剧院) and the Ancient-Dian Stunt Theater (古滇特技剧场) are stages where Yunnan's stories unfold through mesmerizing performances. The "Records of Ancient Yunnan" (古滇风云录) outdoor horse battle is a spectacle that combines equestrian prowess with martial arts, offering a theatrical experience like no other. And for a bird's-eye view of Yunnan's breathtaking landscapes, the "Fly over Yunnan" (飞跃云南) experience at the Flying Cinema (飞翔影院) is a must-try.

As the sun sets, the park transforms into a carnival of lights and sounds. From the vibrant Dai Water-Splashing Festival to the nightly bonfire parties at Peacock Square, there's never a dull moment. And if you're visiting between July 5th and August 27th, the "Summer Carnival Season" (盛夏狂欢季) promises even more festivities.

Getting there is relatively easy. Located 40 kilometers from Kunming's heart, regular buses whisk visitors to and from the park. There are direct buses from New Mall of Nanya Fengqing Mall (南亚风情第一城) to Yunnan-Ancient Dian Kingdom (七彩云南古滇名城). Between 9:30am and 11am, a bus departs every 30 minutes; and from 5pm to 7pm, a bus departs hourly from the park, returning to New Mall. Once inside, one can just hop on the free shuttle buses to navigate the expansive grounds.
