Earlier today it was announced that the US consulate in Chengdu — the go-to consulate for Americans living in Yunnan — was closed by order of the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Here is a list of US embassy and consulates in China. It is strongly recommended for all foreign inhabitants of China to register with the embassy of their country.
