Musicians, partygoers and curious locals will descend on the shores of one of Yunnan's most pristine lakes August 24-26 for the 2012 Fuxian Lake Music Festival.
The festival promises sun, sand and sound as it welcomes more than 20 bands and DJs to the three-day event. Bands will play lakeside in the Luchong Scenic Area (禄充风景区) at Boxi Bay (波息湾).
In addition to music, the Fuxian area offers opportunities to enjoy boating, swimming, camping, visiting local markets and of course ice-cold beverages and late-night barbecue. It is a unique and memorable way to celebrate Chinese Valentine's Day (七夕节), which this year falls on August 23.
Festival tickets are 80 yuan and can be bought at Wheatfield Bookstore or purchased at the festival for 100 yuan. An additional 15 yuan fee must be paid to enter the scenic area.

Getting there
Event organizers will provide transportation to and from the Fuxian Lake for 50 yuan. Chartered buses will leave at 5:30pm from the south gate of Yunnan Normal University on August 24. The drive to Fuxian takes about two hours. Return transportation Sunday will depart for Kunming after the festival winds down.
For those wanting to get to the concert independently, buses to Fuxian Lake run out of Kunming's South Bus Station (南部客运站) and tickets cost 25 yuan. After reaching the lake, transfer to a minibus heading to Luchong Scenic Area for an additional five yuan.
Accommodation
Concert promoters can also arrange rooms in advance (standard: 250 yuan/night, superior: 360 yuan/night) at the Luchong Scenic Resort.
Concertgoers wishing to book their own lodging can find hotels in Luchong ranging between 80-150 yuan per night. Another option is to stay on Solitude Hill, an island getaway off Fuxian's southwest shore. Advanced booking at any of these locations is highly recommended.
Camping enthusiasts can sleep under the stars one kilometer from the festival site. Bring your tent and sleeping bag. Directions will be provided upon arrival at Fuxian Lake.
