Germany-based DHL became the first foreign-owned express company to operate air express services in China's domestic market last Friday, opening the way for foreign express carriers to operate in the country's fast-growing express sector, according to a People's Daily report.
DHL's mainland air express services will primarily focus on the biotechnology, electronics, clothing and transport sectors and will work in tandem with China-based freight carriers including Air China Cargo, China Southern Airlines, China Cargo Airlines and Shanghai Airlines. The company plans to serve 70 cities via 37 branches by 2012.
