I was going to post a similar topic last week, but didn't because usually such questions don't get very good answers. This is largely because the information is generally not available to the public. The last I heard was that the rail link would be open by the end of 2019. Do you have a source for the 28th?

Believe it or not (as far as I can tell), the quality of some of the Mars products in China is actually superior to the crap they sell in the US market. American milk "chocolate" consists largely of high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated vegetable oil. It tastes disgusting and is so sweet it makes your teeth hurt. It boggles the mind why a company like Mars sells inferior goods in its home market.
I recommend going to Walmart and picking up a 200g bar of Whittaker's (New Zealand) chocolate. It's a pretty good deal for 29RMB. Ritter is a good one too, but normally a bit pricey.
Dali isn't "fun", peaceful or relaxing anymore. Maybe if you're into smog, litter, traffic congestion and dirty lakes Dali would be your cup of tea...however Kunming already offers all of those things.

Editorial: Hydro expansion will fail without energy market reform
发布者Isn't the government trying to shift away from dirty coal powered plants, to embrace "cleaner" energy like hydro, nuclear and natural gas? Considering over 70% of their electricity comes from coal, I really don't understand how you can have too much hydro. Is the energy source too far away from the demand?

发布者Xiefei, of course the system is designed to be able better monitor everyone's movements, not just foreigners. Everyone knows you can easily be tracked with your phone. Now there is yet another tool to keep better tabs on you. I won't be putting one on my bike, thanks.

Now the opening date has been pushed back to late 2017 or early 2018.
I like how in the original gokunming article it stated "No cost estimates for the project were provided." That certainly turned out to be a major issue with regards to meeting the 2-3 year completion target. I guess I can't say I'm surprised considering Yunnan is known for poor work ethic and corrupt civil servants.

发布者As far as I can tell, Erhai is getting worse...at least the shoreline, mostly due to tourists throwing garbage into the lake, and lakefront hotels dumping in untreated sewage. I'm super depressed about the environmental situation in Dali, especially the air quality.
