I think that for serious studying the universities (云大,师大) are the best options. They are both not to expensive and have lot of experience teaching foreign students. However most of the students there are from South east asia and there are classes were you might end up beeing the only westerner. Most of the teachers have majored in teaching Chinese as a second language and know their material quite well. Especially the curriculum seems compared to private schools a little bit better. Usually they have three classes, a comprehension class and then additional a speaking and a listening class or for intermediate and advanced level a writing and a listening class.

I have never studied at one of the better private schools but I don`t think you can advance to an upper indtermediate or high level of Chinese there. For that the extra classes like writing and listening are crucial.
The good thing with private schools is that they most likely have English speaking staff, and might help you with the problems you face adjusting to China. 云大s is very bureaucratic and none of the people in charge speak English. So you have to speak Chinese or you just get ignored - a big problem for beginners but a nice challenge for upper beginner or intermediate students.
Every serious language school will provide you with a visa and even assist you in getting it done. If a school cannot make a visa for you it is most likely one of the fake language schools with no license that also exist in Kunming.

There is a Yoga studio in the middle of Green Lake. It is called fashion Yoga. The atmosphere down there is quite good as it is attached to a tea house after the lessons you can sit next to the lake and drink some tea for free. The teachers are Yogis from India. I think they teach very tradional indian Yoga. Lesson language is usually English. Only two of them speak Chinese so they will hold lessons bilingual. They have classes for different levels everyday.
I think 60Yuan for one lesson is quite expensive. But that is how much you pay for Yoga in Kunming.

There is another Yoga studio on Renminlu. It is called Yutao Yoga. The teaching is also very good and the price is about the same if not more expensive.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Salsa dancing in Kunming?

Hi Ben,
I have been a couple of times to the salsa class last year and I really liked it. I have not been to the Hump ever since but I would like to join if classes start again.
