GoodHomie is right, sorry DanDare, you are wrong in this case. I've been riding bikes in Kunming for 10 years (have bought and registered about 6 bikes in that period), stopped by cops many many times. As far as I know you still can't enter the first ring road, else all is accessible. Only ever been fined once, and I was in the wrong (inside first ring), so I deserved it, cops were polite and all was good. I've been in an accident, no issues, cops came, matter was resolved. Rules have changed, bikes are legal in Kunming, you can ride the flyover ring roads and even the highways using the toll roads. In those cases no passengers allowed, but you can legally do it. Those who say you can't aren't up to date with what's happening...
I did this a few years ago, having a car driving license does not help. You have to do a written exam specific to motorbikes, it is shorter than the exam for cars, and then you do a practical exam after the written test. the practical was super easy and straight forward when I did it. took a few minutes using the bikes they provide to you. You drive around a short course, go over a few bumps, do a hill start, a u-turn and drive along a narrow stretch for about 20m.
Redpoint is closed, Little Panda has a gym in the south of the city, a smallish bouldering wall, but a few nice problems on it. Loads of climbing around KMG, check kunmingrock.com for more info.....
You can also pm me if you want to join for Thursday night bouldering on a friends rooftop.
Hi Manuel
Are you familiar agricultural economics? If so, could you send me your cv and I will see if there is something available for you within our group at the Kunming Institute of Botany. We have various projects that may be relevant.
Cheers
Peter
