Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming sucks the life out of me...

Something was a little missing in this post, my dear 高兴, that took the shine of your comedic posts (normally 'pure gold').

I'd say you need to work on your comparatives re: comparing Kunming / China food to say Manila or Quezon in terms of displaying wilful ignorance.

The "Concentration Camp" remark would work better if you reworked it as 'Concentration Camp skinny'.

I think the reason this post failed to live up to your previous standards is that I suspect you actually enjoy living here [Kunming].

Do you have a Twitter account? I'd actually bother to create an account to follow you!

Keep it up, but you need to spend so time reworking your material.

Cheers!

Forums > Living in Kunming > Answer to ' Kunming is OVERRATED'

I study Chinese, spend time with my [Chinese] girlfriend, hang out with my Chinese friends, as well as friends at the school, go hiking, exploring, relax in coffee bars, spending time in parks. All the sorts of things that people do who haven't skim-read through 'How To Make Friends And Influence People 101'.

The difference is I choose to live / study here based on set criteria: relatively unpolluted, clean, temperate climate, with lots of stunning places within the province [Yunnan].

I'm not here for the unsophisticated nightlife (the only point where you and I agree upon is Kundu - if I hear Lady GaGa 'Pokerface' once more I'll scream), but to live in a relaxed, humane city. The fact that Kunming is filled with relatively attractive Chinese women, with long hair, hot-pants / short skirts and stunning legs is the icing on the cake, so to speak.

The thing is, I actually find you rather amusing. Your posts - and the
rebuttals - delivers! Your complete ignorance of the irony of 高兴 as a pseudonym, and your temper tantrums because the "douche-bags" at Salvadors (not to mention the Kunming women) will not provide you with an ounce of attention that you feel you deserve, is delicious - not to mention has provided me with much amusement.

Do you know what amuses me most, my dear 高兴?The fact that you're still HERE in Kunming, despite all of your protestations about how much you dislike living here - and, of course, all of the "douche bags" who live here (yet whose attention you clamour).

You must have a latent masochistic streak to still be here; so perhaps you could reply to this advert and maybe get a little action:

Forums > Living in Kunming > South Africa - France

On another note, I had to watch the USA vs Algeria game, because the LCD was monopolised by my American class-mate. We both cheered and jumped around the lounge when the US scored a late, late goal that sends them through to the next round.

By my permutations, I actually think that the US tops the group due to goal difference!

Quite an exciting game, actually

That could be considered an insult to African teams.

Despite the players at their [France] disposal, Domenech has been an appalling manager, although France did reach the 2006 WC Final. Their exit during the 2008 Euro Competition should have been a sign, but Domenech has persisted with near enough the same players and the same eccentric team selection.

Nevertheless, the players have disgraced themselves with their conduct i.e. Anelka throwing a hissy fit (plus a foul-mouthed tirade during the Mexico match); players refusing to train; players contemplating boycotting the SA match.

I didn't expect much of France (see reasons above re: insanity is persisting with the same actions but expecting different results), but I'm flabbergasted at how their WC campaign has imploded.

That said, I must admit to a degree of schadenfreude at the way the French crumbled (just like the Maginot Line). However, I have a nasty feeling that any schadenfreude I currently feel, will be short-lived i.e. up to the England - Slovenia game.

Forums > Living in Kunming > England, you are killing me!!

Was it ever thus, Dan? Was it ever thus ..

Especially given the 02:30 start, England are not just metaphorically killing us but are also physically killing us.

One simple promise was made and broken by Capello: to only play (1) in-form, and (2) physically fit players.

Why pick Barry? Why pick Ferdinand? Why was Carrick and SWP
allowed to board the plane? Admittedly, Lennon, SWP and Walcott are as bad as each other i.e. no final ball, but SWP cannot even
get a game for [Man] City!

Heskey. Seriously. This man must obviously be a Jedi because he has managed to beguile a succession of England Managers to pick him ... <waves hand in front of England Manager's face> "<any other forward>is not the striker you are looking for" ...

The sad fact is that certain players in the squad seem to be un-droppable - irrespective of how piss-poor a performance they deliver. More damning given that there is a new generation of potential England players who are not given the opportunity to prove themselves because certain players are fixtures in the squad.

The saddest thing is that 'certain' players believe their own hype, and were disparaging Algeria before the game - the same Algeria who were technically superior, and no doubt earn a fraction of what these players earn.

Heskey? Seriously!? Sorry, had to be mentioned again.

That's it. I've finished - and now the Ritalin has kicked in ;)

I like the colour scheme and the initial layout. However, the forum / posting features are basic - especially the layout of posts contained (constrained) in a frame, hard to read and follow, and has a mid-90s feel.

Appreciate if you could look at the possibility - based upon feedback / user-polls - of moving posts to the left-side of the screen, and have threaded posts.

The introduction of a PM [personal message] feature is much welcome, although sadly I expect the necessity of terms and conditions of usage due to "douche-bags" who cannot play nicely and may (ab)use the feature to send a series of abusive messages.

Cheers!

Good review.

I went this weekend with some other students (via cab - approx 40 yuan from 东风东路).

I really enjoyed the setting, as it is extremely peaceful, and the surrounding hills look ideal for exploring - if one has a bike (scooter / mountain bike).

Spent approx 90 mins exploring the temple, looking at the arhats, and talking to a Chinese woman who was learning Japanese, accompanied by her Japanese teacher.

Sadly, we didn't have the opportunity to eat the vegetarian food - although I am a vegetarian - because my class-mates had eaten previously.

I much preferred this temple to Yuantong; and it is nice to be occasionally reminded of Japan (in terms of temples, shrines, etc - and women, let's not forget ;)).

Half a morning / afternoon trip, so would recommend combining with another activity in the vicinity.

Addendum: my 2 female friends just arrived back [home] to complain that they were harassed to buy more alcohol and food.

My female friends wanted Tsingtao beer, to be told that they would not be sold Tsingtao as it's too cheap (12 yuan). They were arm-twisted to buy a more expensive beer. Then after they bought Sol beer, not only was the beer room-temperature, but they constantly badgered to buy food, inquiries asking if they were hungry, etc.

They left to go to Aoma's after that, and had a much better experience in a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Camel Bar 滚蛋

Just came back from Camel Bar after experiencing one of the most bizarre and retarded 'rules' for being 'allowed' to watch a World Cup game.

There is effectively a table fee of 180 yuan (which includes 12 bottles of beer and some popcorn, and a little bit of other food) which you have to pay if you wish to sit and watch a game.

Here's the kicker: I and two others met some (4) friends who already had paid this fee and were happily watching the game. We went to sit with them only to be told that we could sit around the table i.e. in front - thus obscuring the view for them of the game - but not alongside as that would necessitate another 180 yuan table fee!

Admission / seating fees to watch a World Cup game in a bar is retarded at best, as one will buy drinks anyway, but then to be told that effectively a table can only hold 4 people (sitting the other side - and thus in front of the other 4, blocking their view of the game - defeats the purpose of wishing to watch the game ..) when the bar was empty besides one or two others, was the final straw.

I decided to take my custom elsewhere, as there are plenty of other places showing the game - and with projectors.

The other insult was that the projector was slightly fuzzy, distorting the image.

I shan't be going back either during or after the World Cup.

sean1,

The "two beautiful girls that bake the bread" also happen to be the owners.

Not that I disagree with you, mind you ;)
