Do not attempt to go to the Stone Forest. You will spend money on getting there, pay the entrance fee and have to turn right around to catch your plane.

Relax and see the sights in Green lake Park.

Try Blue Bird Restaurant and then go to the airport as the bus is just nearby.

Traffic police use a digital camera to document any tickets they issue. I have never seen anyone use a mobile phone.

Same for the security checks.

Nothing can be done about the past but if this should happen again there are a few options to choose if time permits.

1 - 1st question I have is - are you able to communicate in chinese or will you have someone who does when you travel again. Need a person who is assertive and can translate well.

2 - Tell them you want to cooperate and ask to go see the person in charge - in other words - take you off to the side to speak to a superior.

3 - Explain that the manner in which the police behave is NOT appropriate. Yelling Laowai is NOT appropriate unless you were doing something that required them to get your immediate attention.

4 - Exaplin that using a cell phone is NOT appropriate - that

a digital camea should be used if they are making official documentation of people who are entering for screening. When anyone uses there cell phone you have no idea what it is for.

A passport is a very sensitive document that must be safeguarded.

5 - Take a pciture of the police involved making sure you capture his ID number which should be above his left breast pocket. I know many remove the number because it is attached with velcro. If you can not see his number ask him to give you his ID number so you can make inquiries regarding this matter.

6 - Explain that you are taking his photo because his behavior is NOT appropriate and you will address your questions with police superiors uopn returning from your trip. Or do it now if time permits. You are deserving of having this question answered as to why theyare doing this.

In my 14 years I have never seen this behavior although I must admit that I am beginning to see many peculiar things regarding security in my travels.

I mentioned I was in Beijing last week. Surprisingly, when we went through the security check at Tian An Men, the police who was using the metal detector wand to inspect each person coming in just let me get by without checking me at all. But they were being very thorough with chinese (Non-laowais).

I just returned from Beijing. I was there during the meeting and there was an hour long security check line just to get into Tian An Men Square. We were told aside from the meeting, the security check into Tian An Men has been going on for over a year now and is a daily ritual. I saw at least 4 security check points to get in but I am sure there were more.

As for purchasing tickets, I travel to Dali often and never needed to use my passport but this has changed as of March 2017. Now all ticket purchases require ID/Passport.

The video is very informative but does NOT specifically tell you where these locations are located. The entrance ticket to SHI LIN (Stone Forest) is 175 Yuan. I prefer to buy an annual ticket for 200 Yuan and I can use it at any time during the year. Bring your passport and you can purchase an annual ticket which includes entrance to the MAJOR stone Forest, MINOR stone Forest, BU SHAO SHAN, LI ZI YUAN QING, WAN NIAN LING ZHI, and NAIGU stone Forest (Black Stone Forest).

Most of the footage on the video is of the Black Stone Forest. Few people know about it so each time I go, there are very few visitors, less than 5 people. This location has been completely renovated but it lacks many basics. However, There is NOWHERE to purchase any food or water anywhere in the entire park.

Another location seen in the Video is DA DIE SHUI Waterfall. This USED TO BE included in the price of the entrance ticket more than 1 year ago but it no longer is considered part of the Stone Forest. Presently, the waterfall scenic area is under renovation. The Waterfall is located more then 30 km away from the main park. 2 years ago, you can purchase tickets for the waterfall ONLY for 18 Yuan but I have no idea what the price will be after the renovation is complete.

Good luck

I ASSUME that the writers and staff of GOKUNMING write these articles in an effort to inform the reader of an event or location of some significance in and around Kunming.

I find many of these articles lacking in vital information. In an attempt to be CREATIVE, the writers fail in being INFORMATIVE.

For example, the writers mentions Jiexiao Xiang many, many times but fails to tell the reader where this place is. Is it somewhere in Yunnan? Is it in Kunming? There are 5 districts in Kunming - is it in Pan long District? Or is it in one of the other 4 districts? Is there a major crossroad where this small alley can be found. Perhaps near Beijing Road or Guangfu Road.

I enjoy travelling and seeing new places and I research many of the places I visit. But I really would like to read an article here and NOT be left with MORE questions than when I started.

I ask the staff of GOKunming to please be more specific when writing about places to visit and give SPECIFIC directions such as name of town or village and county and prefecture when writing. Thank you.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
