Forums > Living in Kunming > Found out I am not really because because I don't drink This topic has nothing to do with nationality or ethinicity. You can always find the social alcoholic in any group because he is the one filling everybody's glass as soon as it gets emptied.
This is typical dysfunctional behavior that goes hand in hand with Misery loves company. The alcoholic knows his drinking is bad, so he forces others to join him so the behavior does not seem so bad any more because there are others doing the same bad behavior.
I am a non-drinker. I drink 3-5 times in one year, I only drink beer, and when I drink I never drink more than 1 beer. This is my idea of a non-drinker. However, there are people in recovery (former drinkers) who no longer drink. BillDan mentions that he has been in abstinence for 6 years so he is the latter of the 2 non-drinkers.
Regardless of what type of non-drinker you are, you need to understand that the social alcoholic is the problem, not you. So dont take it personally. When you refuse a drink from a social alcoholic, he will feel the spotlight on him because he needs others to share in his bad behavior. The moment you say NO, others will also say no and this is his worst nightmare. So don't let it bother you. He has a problem, not you. Good luck.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming rainfall It is very difficult to get legitimate statistics regarding this issue. I am really looking for the maximum capacity of each reservoir. So far, I only know that Yun Long capacity is 484 mcm - million cubic meters. Even in chinese websites it is difficult to get info regarding the recent rainfall.
Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming rainfall I found a website that lists the rainfall in Kunming since 1942.
www.tutiempo.net/en/Climate/Kunming/567780.htm
The years with the highest and lowest rainfall are listed below:
HIGH – 79, 80, 81, 83, 86, 94, 97
LOW – 82, 84, 87, 88, 09, 11
Interesting to note that the highs and lows were almost consecutive between 1979 and 1988.
I got some conflicting info regarding the number of reservoirs in Kunming. Not sure if there are 7 or 8 reservoirs.
DISTRICT - NAME
CHENG GONG - SONG MAO
CHENG GONG - GUO LIN
PAN LONG - JIN DIAN
PAN LONG - SONG HUA BA
PAN LONG - SONG HUA BA
XI SHAN - MING LANG

Hope to get some news regarding the recent rainfall and the effects on the reservoir levels
Forums > Living in Kunming > Scooter Shop Recommendation Please stop assuming the worst about me, and writing novel-length manifestos about (be) This word should be ME.
I am not assuming - I am copying and pasting your own words to this post. If they are your own words then they are FACTS, so I have no need to assume.

New high-speed rail line to link Kunming with Dali
发布者Life in Yunnan just keeps getting better. A 2 hour train ride to Dali is a lot better then taking the 4-5 hour bus ride. Not to mention the delays when there is a traffic accident.

发布者Everyone needs to contribute - Now it begins - Yes, we must contribute but when the population does not make their deadline (Dec 31), we must pay - another tax coming just around the corner.
Just like life insurance in the good old USA, you will pay for it whether you want it or not. If you don't pay, they just steal it out of your bank account.

The Global Warming Lie has now conveniently morphed into Climate Change since the weather did not cooperate with the CO2 lies.
Funny how there is no mention of the real problems in the world. The EPA raises the safety limits on poisons every year so that the multinational companies can continue to pollute and make a profit. In the meantime, we get to eat, drink and breathe more pollutants.
Snapshot: Dali and Weishan
发布者There are several noodle shops that are still run by very old people. I saw a beautiful OLD noodle machine (at least 50-70 years old) in one shop and I would love to buy it (Keep an eye on the obituaries). It just needs to be cleaned up because it has decades of flour stuck on it and it will make a wonderful addition to a home museum.
Weishan has not been commercialized yet. Any smart foreigner with some business savy can buy up a lot of antiques very cheaply and make a great cafe/museum/information center/guesthouse like the one in Xishuangbanna; he has his fingers in every pot.
Lots to see in the surrounding area - great place to retire, still make an income, and be the #1 laowai of the town.
Heijing offers the same.
