Do not attempt to go to the Stone Forest. You will spend money on getting there, pay the entrance fee and have to turn right around to catch your plane.

Relax and see the sights in Green lake Park.

Try Blue Bird Restaurant and then go to the airport as the bus is just nearby.

Traffic police use a digital camera to document any tickets they issue. I have never seen anyone use a mobile phone.

Same for the security checks.

Nothing can be done about the past but if this should happen again there are a few options to choose if time permits.

1 - 1st question I have is - are you able to communicate in chinese or will you have someone who does when you travel again. Need a person who is assertive and can translate well.

2 - Tell them you want to cooperate and ask to go see the person in charge - in other words - take you off to the side to speak to a superior.

3 - Explain that the manner in which the police behave is NOT appropriate. Yelling Laowai is NOT appropriate unless you were doing something that required them to get your immediate attention.

4 - Exaplin that using a cell phone is NOT appropriate - that

a digital camea should be used if they are making official documentation of people who are entering for screening. When anyone uses there cell phone you have no idea what it is for.

A passport is a very sensitive document that must be safeguarded.

5 - Take a pciture of the police involved making sure you capture his ID number which should be above his left breast pocket. I know many remove the number because it is attached with velcro. If you can not see his number ask him to give you his ID number so you can make inquiries regarding this matter.

6 - Explain that you are taking his photo because his behavior is NOT appropriate and you will address your questions with police superiors uopn returning from your trip. Or do it now if time permits. You are deserving of having this question answered as to why theyare doing this.

In my 14 years I have never seen this behavior although I must admit that I am beginning to see many peculiar things regarding security in my travels.

I mentioned I was in Beijing last week. Surprisingly, when we went through the security check at Tian An Men, the police who was using the metal detector wand to inspect each person coming in just let me get by without checking me at all. But they were being very thorough with chinese (Non-laowais).

I just returned from Beijing. I was there during the meeting and there was an hour long security check line just to get into Tian An Men Square. We were told aside from the meeting, the security check into Tian An Men has been going on for over a year now and is a daily ritual. I saw at least 4 security check points to get in but I am sure there were more.

As for purchasing tickets, I travel to Dali often and never needed to use my passport but this has changed as of March 2017. Now all ticket purchases require ID/Passport.

I laugh at the ridiculous examples given of philanthropy. Obviously written by someone who has no idea of what is going on in the world. Rich people do not go to jail, they just pay fines. When a rich person or a company pays a fine it means they are GUILTY. When rich people kill and murder innocent people they are not called murders and go to jail, they merely pay a fine. Maybe you can google some of the many examples of rich not going to jail and only paying fines.

History Never stops - It is just written by the winners (rich) and history never changes. Cut social programs and give more money to the military. Ask people at random, Was Hugo Chavez and Gadaffi good or bad? Now wait to hear their response.

Can someone name one rich person who helps the less fortunate. I really am interested in hearing this answer.

Most people are Not able to make the paradigm shift and this is why the world does not change. I for one have no idea what to do with 9 billion - Insane! But my life would forever change with 1 million. Think about how many 1 Millions are in 9 Billion.

The state owned lottery builds the old people's gym equipment you find in the parks - Wow!

Just like BINGO in the USA, you keep calling the numbers until there is a winner. Rather than have one 9 billion winner you can have 10 or 50 1 million winners. People can have better lives and the state still makes a profit. But Greed prevents this from ever happening!

50 people with 1 million can change many peoples lives (family or friends) as opposed to one winner of 9 billion that only happens once in a blue moon.

Go to any poor neighborhood in the US and you will find a liquor store and a check cashing store in every corner. Go to any residential area here in Kunming and you will find a lotter store in every corner as well.

Lottery gives people False hope and it is their greed that makes them sit in the store staring at the next magical numbers for hours.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
