Forums > Living in Kunming > Average rent for small apartment?

Welcome back to Kunming, a bit cold right now. But that's a relative statement depending where you're coming from.

I believe I saw a Walmart at the corner of Xinying Rd. and Bailong Road while sitting in the back of Bus 69 watching the world go by. ;)

You'd be surprised how much that area have changed since 5 years ago.

Around 200 meters further west of Bailong Lu toward Baiyun Lu, two massive shopping centers opposite one another just opened. A future Line 5 Metro station under construction is situated there.

FYI, Line 5 will take you to Green Lake and Shuncheng Plaza for Line 3 (pink) interchange , but not before hitting your familiar Line 2 (blue) that takes you North and South-bound. Line 5 still in the works.

In regards to rent, I'm not sure about older buildings in the area. Since a lot of new empty apartments are sprawling over there, 1700 imo is still totally doable. 1500 with some luck.

The new Aegean Mall is one of the shopping malls there. Their smaller lofts were selling for only 17K/sqm a month and a half ago. Yeah, still pretty cheap since your departure, considering a metro station below.

Many real estate speculators who bought it are renting them out cheap. Perhaps check out the rent prices there at Aegean Mall for sheer convenience.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Decathlon in Kunming?

A new Decathlon will be opening at the massive B1 level of Joy City (大悦城) Shopping Center on Huancheng Nan Lu. The Decathlon renovation wall is still up.

Same floor level as the new Hema (盒马) supermarket. To follow-up on Geezer's point, the Boston lobsters are alive in their tanks. Though can't guarantee live lobsters prior to cooking for Hema online deliveries (free within zone). 10 methods of prepation now. Prices per lobster have increased to 129, but 50cny discounts for first time customers using the Hema app to order on-site or online.

You can't miss the giant Blue Hippo outside.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Birding in Xishuangbanna?

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden's (XTBG) annual birding festival may have taken place just a few days ago.

Btw, you can buy park entrance tickets online via Qunar (yes, again) for around 70-75rmb. Pricier day packages include various combination of attractions/venues within XTBG that require additional entrance fees.

Also, get a rough idea of xtbg by scrolling down to see wildlife and plant photos shared by numerous Qunar reviewers (highlighted comments and those who've recently visited):

Also, click on "周边" tab to see related nearby parks (tickets also sold on Qunar).

Here is a link to other listings:

There are other parks in the area less man-groomed, though I forget the names. Sina Travel Blog would be the #1 go-to hub for information on such, with embedded, user-generated short vids similar to Douyin/Tiktok. Sina blogs, followed by weibo, are the most popular online travel info destination for Chinese. Tap into that wealth of resources.

Agree with AlPage. Those old furniture wood scrapes they burn may contain lots of moldy allergen spores released airborne. I'm guessing.

It's funny you mention this lemon. Keen observation. I also noticed most are white-headed with a black dot in earlier months, but in February many appear black headed.

Either these black dots grow to cover entire face after a few months here, or the black-headed gulls arrive much later and stay for a shorter duration. My hunch is the former.

Thank you for the beautiful photographs Fabio. We look forward to more Yunnan culture, wildlife, and landscape through your lens. Happy journeys with Vera.

Whether snow leopards, yaks, llamas, or these funky monkeys, the sheer amount of fur these guys sport at cold, high altitudes speaks volume of evolutionary natural selection and adaptivity of our mammalian kins.

But Carl also spins breakbeat, which is a mixture of funk, jazz and R&B. So Detroit techno shouldn't be the sole answer as that limits his range. Darn, I was hoping to win this. Next time.

Since we're on the subject of Hang Lung Spring 66, Crystal Jade Golden Palace restaurant on the 6th floor may be worth a visit after experiencing TeamLab on the 2nd floor.

Their sister restaurant in Singapore received a Michelin one star:

Acclaimed dishes are their BBQ pork (炒烧肉) hung on racks. The dongpo meat (东坡肉) looks succulent. The sweet sour pinnaple fried and cooked fish is also tasty. Portions of other dishes like steamed eggplants are quite generous and delicious as well. A group of staffers can be seen preparing steamed pork buns (小笼包) behind see-through glass.

If you're closer to Nanya mall, Crystal Jade has a store there too, I think. And another one somewhere else in Kunming.

Our new editor is on a roll. Pumping out articles seemly every few days. We appreciate your super work ethic. Thank you!

This TeamLab future amusement park looks like a place where children would enjoy. Per Vera's descriptions, an unique interactive medium to unleash your child's creativity. Heck, the kid in me would be just as giddy. Being immersed in all that glow in dark black light is already enough to wow me, let alone DIY art works animated into life and interacting with others. Pretty cool.

For parents thinking about where to take their hyperactive kids with too much pent up energy, the new Aegean Shopping Mall on Baiyun Road No. 168 features a sizable ice skating ring with ice hockey classes what not. Also, another enormous two storey jungle cage with zip lines, trampolines, and assortment of bouncy objects & balls, and challenging climbing obstacles to satisfy the inner ape in all of us.
