In the meantime I found out about a few other shops near the Kunming art college. On 380 Dianmian Ave there's a filling station. You'll find a few small painting shops in this area and my favourite one is 'Mali Fine Arts' in Yiyuan Alley just around the corner. Just in case anyone should ever look for oil color, brushes, canvas and stuff...
