I wish to study non-degree Chinese at a university in Kunming. Any recommendations please?
I wish to study for minimum 1 year starting in March this year.
With thanks in advance.
Thank you for all of the replies and apologies for not replying sooner. It was my first post here and I thought I'd get an email alert if anyone replied. I didn't get any so I just assumed no one had replied.
Based on our experience in Shijiazhuang:
In order to officially be able to enrol foreign students the school must be certified to be able to issue a JW202.
They are inspected to make sure that they have suitable facilities etc.
All of the universities have this certification but not so the schools.
As most foreign children are in China as dependents of a parent with a work permit the issue of getting a study visa for them is not encountered as they are not applying for a study visa; X1 or X2. They enter the school on a dependents visa which is not legal as the school should be JW202 certified but is seemingly accepted practice.
However in our case I was applying for an S1 or S2 visa which is to "accompany a relative who is working or studying in China"
So my visa was the reverse of the norm, the parent being effectively a dependent of the child.
This caused much consternation at immigration and (eventually) highlighted the schools need for this certification in order to get the study visa for the child.
I just wondered if anyone had entered a foreign child into a local school that they could recommend.
I shall be studying non-degree Chinese so shall look for a school near the university if possible. I will have an X1 visa so my daughter can be a dependent of mine so it should be less hassle this time round.
My 9 year old daughter and I are currently living in Shijiazhuang.
I'm studying Mandarin and she's attending a local school where she is the only foreign student.
After only 3 months her Chinese is already very good. (After 9 months mine is still non-existent)
The pollution in SJZ is just too much so I'm looking to move to a city with cleaner air.
I intend to enroll in the university non-degree Chinese course but I need to find her a suitable school.
I don't want her to go to an international school as we are here to learn Chinese. She already speaks English, Tagalog and Thai so languages come easily to her.
Does anyone know of a local school that is able to enroll foreign students?
Many thanks in advance.
