+1 Alien
Idealistic maybe, people hang on to the past, don't care to much about the future so bit of a tough one.
One thing about Japan's past bad times was so much got recorded due to military and reporters on the ground due to the rise of the camera. Will be a bit hard to forget when you can see it on your screen replayed over and over. Other slightly more distant crimes by other countries are easier to forget by the average person.
Don't think anyone's deciding for anybody, just opinions :)
Holding on to crimes committed nearly three quarters of a century ago is no good for anyone Napoleon. Europeans were also experiencing war atrocities at this time but you won't see such a strong xenophobic feel there that you still get here. It's for some reason managed to hold on stronger, maybe due to government help!
The war will be out of true living memory within the next decade or so which you must surely feel will ease any remaining tensions anyhow.
Nearly forgot a favourite of mine which are them jelly eggs you get here. A dish with quite a few on the plate and some sauce/salad (not quite sure what to call it) makes a tasty snack :)

Migrant workers receive bricks in lieu of pay
发布者I was thinking the same with the way it would've been played out in court. I'm sure the owners aren't worrying about paying their kids tuition fees or even next months meals compared to some of the workers.
Life in Kunming: Studying Chinese in the Spring City
发布者It get's easier upon learning the way's of doing things, kind of becoming an automation on the regular things.
I've been here 4 and a half years learning a little all the time but the language never perfectly sticks, just slowly grows. It's a tough challenge especially when like JanJal my local spouse contributes quite a lot when I have trouble. It's something I think is always worth keeping up with if you're going to stay for any long length of time.
A fave :

World War II cemetery in Yunnan receives national recognition
发布者Was there in passing Monday and had dinner in the old town. I would've gone to this area as well had I known, for it's historical importance alone and to show some respect for the fallen of war.
Counting down Kunming's Top Ten Smells
发布者I also would of put a good hotpot smell further up the list rather than a side mention, one of my faves!
