Forums > Living in Kunming > Medical exam: rather in Europe or in Kunming?

In my 11 years in Chine, I've found that the conditions for medical exam vary greatly from one hospital to the next. I have experienced quite awful conditions, such as one blood-stained towel placed under each person's elbow for blood extraction and six people in the same room for the chest X-ray –– and NO LEAD SHIELD AT ALL. Expect the worst and hope for the best.

Forums > Food & Drink > Location of Oolong tea Bags

Any large supermarket, such as Carrefour or Wal-Mart, should have bags of imported tea labeled as "Oolong Tea". Those can be tea grown in Taiwan or New Zealand, or even from China, packaged, shipped to a large foreign company, and then re-sold back as imported item to a Chinese imported goods distributor.

If you want to buy loose leaves from a tea shop, show them these characters:
乌龙茶 ("wu long cha" or if your browser shows accents and you know the tones: wū lóng chá)

Forums > Food & Drink > Avocados around?

Every edible avocado I've seen in mainland China for the past 11 years in several provinces have come from Mexico (90%) or Australia. That means different seasons southern / northern hemisphere. They are readily available almost year round at Carrefour, Tesco, and RT Mart here in the Shanghai area. Price is usually through the roof, but RT Mart is now selling them for 7 RMB / 500g (about one-eighth the price at other markets). I have found them at mom & pop fruit stands, but usually very poor quality, due to incorrect handling (delivered by bicycle on bumpy roads).
