Actually the first thing that you've said all day that I agree with Campo... you're right, personal attacks have no place in a discussion like this. So I will finish my involvement with the actual facts and sources that you so desire (also keep in mind that you have yet to provide a source...).

First - the GMOs, the whole reason we're here. The only thing you have to say is that Roundup causes cancer. Roundup has been used for 40 years and numerous independent studies over the years have concluded that it presents no danger to humans (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glyphosate#Toxicity). Yes it is a wikipedia link, because there are numerous articles cited in there and you can peruse them at your leisure. However, I have also read articles linking it to cancer, so I am open to the possibility that there is a link. Regardless, Roundup is just a product often used in conjunction with GMOs, and its harmfulness does not actually have any relation to the GMOs themselves.

Now, autism. A decade ago the autism diagnosis rate was 1 in 250, not 1 in 10,000 as you claim. It is currently 1 in 68. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology_of_autism . This is a large rise, however it corresponds with only a tiny rise in the rate of vaccination (www.cdc.gov/[...] suggesting that the two are unrelated (even if the rates rose completely in sync, it would not necessarily mean that there was any causality there). In addition, other countries' autism rates have risen at a similar rate in the past ten years, despite using different vaccinations and having completely different vaccination rates. This is great evidence that there is little to no link between the two.

Finally, global climate change. The global mean temperature has risen an average of approximately .25 degrees Fahrenheit in each of the last five decades. The average temperature this February was the second-warmest February in the 136-year record, at 0.82 degrees Celsius above the previous century's average. www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/

Now, if you've got actual sources to back up your bullshit, please let us know.

Campo, the fact that the same company that sells many GMO seeds also sells Roundup has nothing to do with GMOs being bad for your health. Just because Roundup doesn't kill (Monsanto's, not all) GMOs doesn't mean anyone has to use Roundup on their GMO crops. To use the popcorn analogy again, if you put poison on popcorn, it's not the popcorn that's doing the killing. I think this is a case of an evil company (Monsanto), not an evil technology (GMOs). And if you're going to compare this to any other current issue, the vaccine-autism link is about the worst possible one you could use, as the overwhelming consensus in the scientific community (you know, the people who spend their lives studying these things instead of just listening to celebrities on talk shows) is that there is no link between the two.

Okay, just to be clear, the article that Magnifico posted doesn't actually say anything substantial about GMOs themselves. It talks about Roundup, a weedkiller that can be sprayed on any crop and just happens to be produced by Monsanto. That's like saying popcorn should be banned because someone could put poison on it. The article also doesn't source any of its claims.

This was also bugging me because it didn't make any sense in the contexts they were saying it to me. I finally asked my friend to explain it to me after she said it for the fiftieth time, and we figured out that it really means "You expect too much," like you're being optimistic about something that probably won't happen. So far that's made sense every time I've heard it since.
