Hi!
1. if you go straight to Yuanyang I think you will have enough time.

2. Buses from the south bus station to Yuanyang are scheduled at 10:20, 12:30 and 19:00 (this last one probably a sleeper, I guess. I noted this down a few months ago,I hope they haven't changed!). If you are lucky, you can catch the 12.30 one. Otherwise I suggest you come back to town or go to Chenggong for a meal - there is not much to do around the station. The bus trip should take 6/7 hours at least, depending on traffic. The bus will stop at the 'new town' (Nansha) first, then go up to Xinjie. From there you will have to take a minivan (or ask your hotel to pick you up)
3. I have never done the trip myself, so I don't have any detailed info. But a friend of mine recently did it, and said it only took 8 hours. roads might have improved!
4. Yuanyang Timeless Hostel(www.agoda.com/[...] is a good place to stay. Friendly owners and employees, good food and good view. They can arrange tours and pick you up from the bus station (a 40-minute ride if I remember correctly).

Forums > Living in Kunming > Z visa very qualified...but no BA

and you did the paperwork 3.5 years ago. Things have changed, and people need to know what the requirements are now. Renewing a visa is a completely different story from applying for a new one. I agree with you that it's often all about guanxi and who you know... but I would never rely on that to get a visa!

Visa requirements have changed many times in the past years. In order to get a Foreign Expert Certificate and be hired as an English teacher you now need: a BA, a TEFL/TESOL or CELTA, background check, 2 years experience and, if you are not a native speaker, proof of having lived in an English-speaking country for "a long time" (not sure exactly how long-I am sorry!).
This were the documents required 2 months ago, and I haven't heard of any changes since then. The system has been unified and it's now the same for every place in China. However, your employee's relationship with the PSB might also matter. I was told some countries have been 'blacklisted' and people holding a passport from those countries might have difficulties obtaining a Z visa. These are, obviously, just rumours.

I found myself for the first time in Lijiang old town at 7 am a few months ago, and I agree with you that if you get there early enough you basically have the place to yourself. Big tourist crowds only show up later in the morning. Thanks for sharing! For your next visit: going to the Tiger Leaping Gorge is only worth it if you trek the high path, staying overnight in the villages halfway and/or Walnut Garden. Don't bother with the day trip from Lijiang!

Lost Garden has recently been renovated and now features a cafè/restaurant and new management. Great cozy atmosphere, just around the corner from Green Lake, lovely terrace on the third floor with lots of sun in the afternoon and the best brunch in town. We tried the breakfast skillets - very generous portions and the food is prepared using fresh local ingredients. Coffee was great and the drinks menu includes mimosas and bloody mary. Not to be missed!

Great food and nice atmosphere! A good selection of drinks —coffee, juices, wine and teas - I especially love the lemongrass tea, and lots of tasty dishes, such as lentil+tempeh+quinoa curry and the beets/tuna sashimi bowls. Lots of vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options. highly recommended!!

I have been here several times over the last two years. High quality, authentic Italian taste. Portions could be bigger, but prices are fair, considering they use imported ingredients. I definitely recommend pizzas, desserts, lamb and steaks.
